Sonic Revolution Competition February 18, 2005

Welcome one and all to 'Sonic Revolution', RPGamer's first music competition in nearly 3 years.

The results are in and all numbers have been tabulated and the winner is... Zircon, with his Shadows Among the Ruins. Coming in a close second, with numerous entries extremly close (and you don't get much closer then this) we have Trenithian's Carnivorous Carnival. The winner of the amateur section is no slouch either, as Chagall's Falling Embers not only wins that catagory, but falls within the top 5 scoring mixes.

Its at this time, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to my fellow judges. The first judge wishes to remain anonymous, and so I will respect his/her wishes. The second judge is the amazing reviewer Rexy, from over at VGmix. Before I go any further, I will let them speak. Our mystery judge wishes to remain silient in the shadows, but Rexy has some words for us all.

Rexy:

I can say I've had a lot of fun going through the contest entries and judging them all as appropriate. There was a good collection of arrangements provided here, and for that purpose I would like to congratulate everyone who took part for what they have done with their mixes - whether you were good or not-so-good, it's been great going over your work and seeing what has been provided.

Even with that in mind, going through the individual arrangements was not easy. In various areas I managed to notice a tough contest within some of the pieces in general, and having said that I found it very difficult to eventually decide on an overall winner. But whichever managed to come out of this, I can say it's been great just absorbing the songs and seeing what came out of them. Some of these entries may eventually end up around other remixing sites across the web if not already, so I'm sure that a fair amount of these will provide a firm following in the months (years?) to come.

I would like to pass my thanks down towards Redbeastmage for assigning me with this spot in the first place, as well as establishing the competition in the first place. If it weren't for his input, we wouldn't have been able to take in a strong competition that has managed to gather the interest of a broad amount of the videogame arrangement community here. I also pass another notable mention towards [the judge] the other side of the judges' panel - whether we thought alike or opposite, I can tell that he's worked just as well at the process.

I hope that the Sound Test section of the site will advance well into the future. Thank you very much for your time.

Peace out, -Rexy-

Redbeastmage:

I can't say how valuable it was to have two judges of their caliber assisting me with this contest. Thank you Rexy and [Name deleted]. With that said, I would like to thank everyone who participated in this contest. Without you, this would have just been a big bust. I especially extend my gratitude to those who took their first step into the remix world for this contest. It takes guts to step up to the plate for the first time, and regardless of how you scored, your winners in my eyes. I look forward to more submissions from everyone, especially the first timers, in the future.

Well, thats all for now. Given how well this competition worked out, I will be planning more events for the future. Stay tuned to Sound Test to see whats in store.
