Rexy

Remix

The faithfulness to all three sources is there straight throughout, which have worked well in familiarizing the game series well towards the listener. The execution is generally pretty good; even though some of the earlier portions ended up with some light dissonance down the line it has still worked in generating a strong provision all around. Given it's the first hint of Golden Sun 2 coverage provided for the site (even though the Saturos theme is also associated with the first game), it is highly likely that it has worked to stand alone from the source material granted its broader performance all around it. The piece has also shown a firm amount of variance given the great amount of counter melodies provided as well as some additional areas that link the sections well enough as well as providing a few additional accompaniment portions alongside it; if some of the sources could have been granted some further variation down the line it might have been a bit stronger, but this is still very good. And generally the structure is shown to be fine, even though I personally feel the ending could have been just as subdued as the intro. And the transitions towards the segments for Saturos Battle could have been a bit smoother when it came to the dynamics, but I feel the general concept has worked to make them shine compositionally.

Creativity

There is shown to be a great amount of variance among the backing lines, so all seems to be good in that aspect. I for one am also impressed with the general layering of the countermelodies which have in turn provided a more reflective setting al around. Mind, given this is an orchestrated piece it didn't quite feel as majestic as I was originally hoping for. I can say the sections generally link well; they're all mainly in the same key, and the transitions have also worked in providing a firm amount of fluency all around it. Every segment is shown to have something different all around, so I can say it does maintain a firm pace around it. Now that you mention it, what I thought was the best part when it came to that aspect was the tempo techniques surrounding the Villain area that proceeded from 3:12 onwards. There are shown to be some light elements of repetition given the chord structures of the source though, but with the amount of deviation all around it the casual listener may not pick up too much on that. And when it came down to enjoying the song, some thought will depend on whether you're into the orchestrated genre or not, but whichever is the case it has still worked well to provide a fresh and involving track given its length. A solid effort all around and I'm very impressed considering this is up for the Amateur prize.

Production

The general sound faces chosen here are well provided and have managed to provide a strong and haunting atmosphere all around it. There's been some nice use of reverb to simulate a genuine concert hall, and the EQs are also firmly structured well too; although I feel some of the instruments seem to lack volume expression they have still been provided at a fluent pace here. The vocal work as provided at the start has managed to blend in well while providing a broad sense of atmosphere all around it, but even here I feel the listener may find it difficult to be able to pinpoint its exact placement here. The general levels and balance are fine, but I feel this arrangement has faced some very quiet mastering problems, thus it could have easily benefited from normalization. The panning is shown to be well rounded for an orchestrated piece, thus emphasizing well on the more realistic setting all around the mix's status. Generally I feel this part of the song has some good areas and some that are not-so-good, but it has still worked in driving the track forward. It sounds pretty good here.

Remix

Great overall, but poor ending--use more instruments!

Creativity

Well-balanced orchestration (certainly inspired by the original) with percussion and interlude-esque sections of other themes.

Production

Decent samples, but a bit too much percussion in places and reverb.

I like your mixture of source material. You do a lot of work to link these three themes together, and I think you deserve a lot of credit for that. There is not much you do melodically to the individual themes to change them, but by using multiple themes, your piece stands firm as a solid remix.

Creativity

This is a very impressive piece. It has a nice running time, long, but to so much as to bore the listener. Your instrumentation is powerful and impressive. I only wish there was more original material within the individual themes. I can think of little else to say about this piece. Bravo.

Production

So you say that is you singing? Wow.... Very impressive. Bonus points for that. Unfortunately, thats a bit low in the mix, needs just a tiny boost. Other then that, I like your samples, they sound very nice, although the drums can get a bit loose sounding at times. Nice work here.
