Rexy

Remix

It took a while for me to be able to adapt to the source, but when I was I saw it managed to gather a fair amount of familiarity with the theme all around. However, I am not impressed with its execution - providing the general key of the melody at a totally different one to the accompaniment has made it sound atrocious in general. I can let him off for the right key of the melodic components within the middle portions at 1:07 onwards, but even that still has its light faults. Given what I've seen so far I have doubts it's strong enough to stand alone, even when it's coverage for a game that hasn't really been given much attention in mixing yet. The variance on the theme is also felt to be minimal - it only seems to take the basic bones of the first 2 minutes of the theme. And for most of the time the general structures seem to be fair, but given the other hiccups as pointed out earlier on in this paragraph it has made this aspect feel a bit difficult to absorb.

Creativity

There didn't seem to be much creative scope that seemed to breathe a lot of life within the song aside from a fair amount of tempo work near the middle, but even there it was felt to be a bit jerky as time has managed to advance on. This in turn linked well into the bonding together of the sections - the end of that particular portion back into the main riff has been poorly realized, and I've also noticed that most of the problems relating to the above paragraph have also added to the shaky links between areas. I can't say it's fresh given the arranger's thought behind using self-created loops to provide a broad scope around the accompaniment; his knowledge on that aspect is there but I have a feeling that more could have been provided down the line. The general structure of the track is at a rather steady 1-2-1 setting - not bad choice, but I know he can broaden on the scope in the future. Alas, given the main problems that have hindered the piece, I didn't really seem to find it to be that much of an enjoyable mix in general.

Production

The samples chosen for this are very synthetic - no expression whatsoever and I feel various textures could have been improved upon approaching them. The processing is also very minimal through the amount of dry instrumentation and bass EQs all around, although I feel there seemed to be a good choice of sustain upon some of the guitar-related instrumentation. There are no recorded elements provided here, so we can't question much on that aspect. The sound levels are generally okay though - a firm amount of balance has been applied all the way throughout the mix. And the panning is shown to be rather spacious - even though it didn't seem to grant much excitement it has still done its job. I'm surprised in seeing this aspect of the arrangement work better than most of the other portions, so that's good.

?Judge?

Remix

A touch too dry, perhaps could have been remedied with more variation (and thus more music).

Creativity

Too short to develop mature remix techniques, but showing potential for eventual good-(or great-)ness.

Production

Samples obviously synthesized, but effective for the style; no noticable flaws in production.

Redbeastmage

Remix

A bit too much of the original for my taste.

Creativity

Seems to lack a bit with creativity. It feels like you had an idea, a goal, and you just didn't get to realize it.

Production

Overly synth sounding in general. Some of the panning effects seems just thrown in without reason. Seems like it just needed some more time and love.
