Final Fantasy VIII - Fields of Beryl
|
Artist's Comments:A bit perturbed by the lack of entrants for this contest round, I undertook the task of breaking out of my 'classic' style. Although I have some background performing (and studying to a lesser extent) classic jazz-style music, arranging game music in this style was very new to me, presenting all sorts of challenges that one doesn't encounter with an orchestral or piano arrangement. I composed the lead sheet for 'Fields of Beryl' in about a half hour, then spent almost two days recording and editing the one useable take of about a dozen others for each part. It's not the most refined piece I've arranged, but I think the sound is appropriate for an amateur jazz performance. This arrangement is performed with a tenor sax/piano/stand-up bass combo. |

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Prelude
|
Artist's Comments:Anyway, yeah, the title sucks. Sorry about that. But I think this is easily my best work to date, both in terms of arrangement and production. I got Cubase SL and QLSO silver, so everything's a huge step up from the old Reason based stuff, needless to say. Although I still used Reason for the clarinet sounds, since a lot of QLSO's woodwinds are out of tune. A shame, since the rest of the library is so fantastic. This piece comes mostly from Ocarina of Time, with some Wind Waker and aLttP thrown in for good measure. Hope you enjoy! |

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Falling Back

Artist's Comments:Hello all! I hope you enjoy this piece. This is a re-arrangement of Gerudo Valley from Zelda: OoT, complete with lyrics, rockin' guitars, and some synth work to boot! :)

If you recognized the title, then I am willing to bet you have had the good fortune of playing Lost in Blue for the DS. Oh man, is it ever addictive. Its also nice to actually play a game other then World of Warcraft. And to add to the fun, I have We <3 Katamari on my desk and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance coming next week. So, I guess I should forget about getting Dean's list this semester.
This week is a nice bit of down time for all our submitters who are getting (I hope) geared up for the final round of Splendid Performance contest. So, as a nice recap for those of you just joining us, I have posted the 4 audition round winning pieces as this week's submissions. Also, feel free to check the individual contest pages, as linked to on the sidebar here, if you want to hear any of the other entries.
Anyhow, lots of games to play, lots of music to work on, so I shall make my exit now. I do want to mention before I go, that all the invitations have gone out for the final round, so if you haven't responded to yours yet, please do. Should there be any declined invitations, they will be sent to other submitters. So be sure to check your email!
