Bladiator
Final Fantasy VIII - Moontang
Artist's Comments: I decided to try remixing with a band style that no one else would (want to) use.

Chrono Trigger - Atonement
Artist's Comments: This is my take on Magus' theme. The band setting is: 2 guitars, 1 drummer, 1 bass guitarrist, and a keyboardist. There isn't too much arrangement here other than an original solo and some alternate instrumentations, but I felt Magus' theme was good enough where it didn't need much work to make it sound great.

Rexy
Kingdom Hearts - Costa del Sora
Artist's Comments: Who would have thought I'd actually send something in for this audition? ;) Nonetheless, what I ended up doing was providing a smooth midnight-at-the-oasis-style variation on the Destiny Islands theme from Kingdom Hearts. This is arranged for three percussionists (drum kit, tamborine, bongos), two alternate leads (tenor sax, recorder), bass, marimba and e piano, so I can say it has adapted well to the small band requirement. Special thanks go to Kevin "Lorenzo" Sisk at OverClocked Remix for rendering my MIDI project into MP3 format.

> A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a song speaks novels.

Its that time again. No, not a trip to the doctor. Or Disney world. No, its the end of a contest round, and I have a bounty of submissions for all the faithful who are reading this now. However, rather then put all my eggs in one basket, I have decided to spread them out over this week and next week.

This week you can give a listen to the first three (out of five total) submissions for "In the Band". Quite the big name lineup, this week Bladiator takes his second stab at the contest, once again remixing the waltz theme from Final Fantasy 8. Following that, Darangen steps up to the plate, with a kickin' Magus' theme arrangement from Chrono Trigger. Rounding out this weeks contest trio is the surprise entry from Rexy, a remix from Kingdom Hearts. I say surprising because Rexy said she wouldn't be able to enter this round. Trickery I say!

In music news, which is TOTALLY unrelated to RPGs, Nine Inch Nails has a project up that allows anyone to download, for free, the source tracks and mix file for their new single Only. I bring this up, because it's a very interesting opportunity to take a song that is well recorded and mixed, and have your way with it. You can learn a lot from both seeing how a song is mixed and by adjusting the mix perameters. Check it out if you're interested.

With all that said, I just want to report that despite high hopes, I received no punk or ska submissions for the contest. I'm hoping maybe someone will gather the courage to try their hand at one of these styles sometime in the future. Maybe? Wink wink, nudge nudge?
