The Grand Audition
Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 | Round 4
The Grand Audition Updated: 10.31.07

Welcome to the latest contest from Sound Test. The Grand Audition is a contest similar to RPGamer Idol. The winner (see below) will be awarded the position of "Resident Remixer." There will also be more prizes (and more to be added as the contest proceeds). Once you are awarded the position, your job will be to compose remixes on a semi-regular basis, and providing support to the curator (that's me) when needed. Not only that, but you get a nifty email address. So don't be bashful, give it a shot, it'll be a long concert but well worth the time!

Again, like RPGamer Idol, the winner will be chosen on a combination of the reader's vote, and the votes of the judging panel. See Judging for more details.

III. Judging

The judging for the contest will be slightly different than previous contests. The Judging panel will consist of myself Matthew 'barieuph' Russo, and 2 guest RPGamer staff members each round. In addition to these scores will be a reader submitted score. At the end of the round will be a week of reader evaluation, where readers can submit their score. The reader scores will be averaged together in each individual area (Theme, Remix, Creativity, and Production) and will be used to determine placement in each round.

IV. Grading Criteria

Theme (10%) - This score represents how well the submission adheres to the theme of the Audition Phase. Those failing to submit materials that represent the theme will be scored a 0. Although these would appear to be a cut and dry score, there can be some gray area, and remixers are warned to be very specific and exact with their remixes.

Remix (35%) - The category encompasses how well the remix represents the original work(s). The piece should be strong enough that someone familiar with the original work recognizes the source material, but that it also strong enough to stand alone from the original.

Creativity (45%) - This category is a critique of the artist's compositional decisions in the songs creation. What has been added to really breathe life into the remix? Does the piece flow solidly from section to section, and stay fresh without becoming repetitive? Is listening to this song enjoyable?

Production (10%) - This category encompasses the technical qualities of the sound, including the quality of samples used, of any recording done, and of mixing and panning.

V. Prizes

(1) Grand Prize - Winner of entire cumulative competion will become RPGamer's new Resident Remixer. Winner will also win the upcoming Pianosquall cd release entitled "GAME".
(1) First Prize Runner-up - receives PianoSquall's Debut Album GAME.
