First allow me to congratulate all who entered the first four rounds of The Grand Audition. It's been a fun contest, and I'm looking forward to the next contest that Sound Test will run. Now for the fun part. Virtuoso, Fermat's Last Theorem, nerv, and Kain Vinosec, your contributions thus far have brought you to the final round. The true creative test is here. Above is your theme and your instrumentation limits. It's a doozy, but I expect the best.
At long last, the entries for "Where the Sidewalk Ends" are here! Sadly, I did not receive a submission from Kain Vinosec, but Virtuoso, nerv, and Fermat's Last Theorem have brought you their very finest for this round that decides all the marbles! You have one week to vote. I will continually post the staff judges as they trickle in. Good luck to those who've entered.
The thread below is for the rest of the contest, please post your thoughts there.

The Caryatid |
A fallen caryatid crushed beneath the weight but beautiful none the less. A martyr of strength not of the body but of the will. Knowing she is crushed but persisting on, bearing her load, in her own special triumph. She is not beaten for she endures that burden too large for her because it is her own. and therein lies her beauty. -Shel Silverstein

Snowman |
T'was the first day of the springtime, And the snowman stood alone As the winter snows were melting, And the pine trees seemed to groan, Ah, you poor sad smiling snowman, You'll be melting by and by." Said the snowman, "What a pity, For I'd like to see July. Yes, I'd like to see July, and please don't ask me why. But I'd like to, yes I'd like to, oh I'd like to see July.
Chirped a robin, just arriving, "Seasons come and seasons go, And the greatest ice must crumble When it's flowers' time to grow. And as one thing is beginning So another thing must die, And there's never been a snowman Who has ever seen July. No, they never see July, no matter how they try. No, they never ever, never ever, never see July. But the snowman sniffed his carrot nose And said, "At least I'll try." And he bravely smiled his frosty smile And blinked his coal-black eye. And there he stood and faced the sun A blazin' from the sky – And I really cannot tell you If he ever saw July. Did he ever see July? You can guess as well as I If he ever, if he never, if he ever saw July. -Shel Silverstein

Forgotten Language |
Once I spoke the language of the flowers, Once I understood each word the caterpillar said, Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings, And shared a conversation with the housefly in my bed. Once I heard and answered all the questions of the crickets, And joined the crying of each falling dying flake of snow, Once I spoke the language of the flowers. . . . How did it go? How did it go? -Shel Silverstein

It's time to come clean. I miscalculated the scores, and gave points to one contestant that another contestant deserved. The result was a scrambling of the scores and the announcement of the winner, who in fact hadn't won. I accept complete responsibility for this madness. Now, while I've considered all of the contestants winners, I must announce that the winner of the competition is Fermat's Last Theorem. As for what will happen to the other contestants. Only time will tell, but it seems like Sound Test will be changing it up a bit this year.

Score Breakdown
|
Theme (10%) - This score represents how well the submission adheres to the theme of the Audition Phase. Those failing to submit materials that represent the theme will be scored a 0. Although this would appear to be a cut and dry score, there can be some gray area, and remixers are warned to be very specific and exact with their remixes.
Remix (35%) - The category encompasses how well this remix represents the original work(s). The piece should be strong enough that someone familiar with the original work recognizes the source material, but that it also strong enough to stand alone from the original.
Creativity (45%) - This category is a critique of the artist's compositional decisions in the songs creation. What has been added to really breathe life into the remix? Does the piece flow solidly from section to section, and stay fresh without becoming repetitive? Is listening to this song enjoyable?
Production (10%) - This category encompasses the technical qualities of the sound, including the quality of samples used, of any recording done, and of mixing and panning.
