Week two of the new year, and as promised, I have a surprise for everyone. No, I'm not pregnant, since that's physically impossible. No, it's a better surprise then that. It is Sonic Revolution the first new competition here at Sound Test in almost 3 years! All the information on this competition can be found on over on that page, but I want to speak briefly about it here.
The purpose of Sonic Revolution is to kick off the new year with a bang. I wanted a way to really get people excited about this section and working on submissions so I wrote up an idea for this contest about a month ago. I had all kinds of crazy ideas for what I wanted the theme to be, but decided that I would rather have an open theme to start things off. I say 'start things off', because I intend to run more competitions this year with different themes.
Another reason for the open theme is that I wanted to encourage first time and would be remixers to get involved to. Then it occurred to me, that I wouldn't want to enter a contest with possibly an uncomfortable theme as a total unknown with little experience. Hence, not only is there no particular theme for this competition, but there is also the amateur prize. I encourage everyone with any musical desire to get up and get to work. As for all you accomplished remixers, I look forward to your new, original submissions for this contest.
With all that said, I move to this week's submissions, coming once again from our dear friend Darangen. This week Darangen has submitted to us a brand new piece of his, a solo piano remix from Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. A beautiful and moving arrangement written for piano, I must have listened to this nonstop this week since I received it. What strikes me is the relative simplicity of piece. I took a look at the MIDI in sheet music form and its technically not a very difficult piece, as most solo piano music is. A very impressive piece indeed.
