"Music that gentlier on the spirit lies,
Than tired eyelids upon tired eyes."

- Alfred Lord Tennyson
Wen-Bin "Virtuoso" Tan SaGa Frontier | Theme of Asselus
Author's Comments

For this round, I have chosen to remix Asellus's two-part theme, creating a large-scale piece full of contrasts portraying Asellus's inner conflict regarding her dual human and Mystical natures. Slow sections tinged with melancholy are juxtaposed with faster, more grandiose sections resembling Baroque toccatas, displaying a wide variety of sounds across the board. The ending is again something different.

Owing to the lack of a decent electric guitar synth, I imported three very different keyboard instrument synths for this remix, all of which are given their chance to shine someplace or other: the organ, the harpsichord (a twangy-sounding predecessor of the piano) and the celesta (a tinkly sounding instrument).

Once again, this remix is dedicated to Natalie, to whom I am truly grateful to for staying up with me during the sleepless nights I labored to finish this remix.

First and foremost, I must apologize for the tardiness of this update. For some bizarre reason, I couldn't access the site's server last Friday.

Round 4 of "The Grand Audition 2009" comes to a close, and this round's victor won by a margin of less than half a percent! Unbelievable! And I thought the 1.32% margin in Round 1 was small! View the score breakdown in the round page. Well done and congratulations to all participants! And so, we have four superbly talented remixers participating in the Final Round. Check back next week as I reveal the theme for the final round of competition! As it is the last round, you guys can bet that it'll be tough. The showdown is bound to be... legendary.

As for the feature of this update, I bring you the winner of Round 4 of the previous competition of the same name. Requiem is an offering by the superbly talented Wen-Bin "Virtuoso" Tan and features textures, techniques, and musical colors so varied that it would take forever if I were to elucidate them one by one. As such, I shall let the music speak for itself. The price for such variation, however, is its considerable length. Nevertheless, it is a worthy addition to any game music aficionado's remix playlist. If you haven't gotten a copy of this piece, go ahead and download it now.

Again, the end begins next week. Check back at that time for details. Until then, this is your tired and sleepy Sound Test curator signing off!
