Passacaglia in A
Francis "Fermat's Last Theorem" Gayon, M.D. Luminous Arc 2 | Awakening
Author's Comments
This piece was originally composed for a pediatric resident's wedding a while back. I drew inspiration from Pachelbel's famous Canon in D. The piece was initially supposed to be a canon as well, but I found a passacaglia's structure to be much easier to work with, so I went with that. Sadly, this piece ended up being discarded.

Composed for string orchestra using Sibelius 5 and rendered by Kouen using SONAR 7 Producer Edition.

So I've been feeling a bit bummed out lately... I was supposed to be interviewed via Skype for a very promising job opportunity. The first interview didn't push through and had to be rescheduled. The exact same thing happened during both instances—I called every five minutes for the first fifteen minutes, then every fifteen minutes for the next hour, then hourly for the next four hours... Nothing. It was like monitoring a post-op patient. My interviewer contacted me after the first failed interview, but hasn't contacted me again after the second. I've lost all but a tiny flicker of hope. It sucks, really, because I really wanted this job...

Well, enough about that. Today's featured piece is the passacaglia constructed using the title screen music for Luminous Arc 2—one of two I composed for a pediatric resident's wedding. I wanted to give her options; she ended up choosing neither. The tempo is just slightly faster than that of the Passacaglia in A-flat, but both pieces are nearly identical in terms of structure, as I've pointed out in last week's update. Again, don't let the fancy name scare you off. Give it a try.

That's about it for this update. Hopefully, I'll have much better news to share in the next update. Until then!

Fermat's Last Theorem, M.D.
