Yup. It's the first update of the year. Thankfully, I didn't have to relieve another physician this week and I managed to put up a column on schedule. Nothing like starting the year right, right?
Seven Sealed Maidens opens with a more subdued variation of Dark World Dungeon that lacks the original track's trademark tremolos. The said tremolos only appear at around the one-minute mark, along with new samples, including one that vaguely sounds like the generic spooky sound effect. I suppose it was an appropriate choice—a large chunk of the mix is based on a piece entitled Dark World Dungeon, after all. The melodic line became somewhat buried in this segment, though. Some familiar Legend of Zelda sound bits appear at 2:40, 3:02, and 3:09, as if one was really traversing through the dungeon in real time. Keeping true to this feel, the brasswinds erupt with Boss (BGM) half a minute later and the remix eventually culminates in the Boss Clear Fanfare, played by an acoustic guitar. Again, this is an example of very smart instrumentation. It's as if the bard had finished a chapter of his tale with a flourish of his guitar as the brave hero defeats the evil boss.
Well, I hope you guys enjoyed this week's Sound Test update. Have a great weekend!
