I just got home from the auditorium across my alma mater. I had just watched Tao Rin Pala, the College of Medicine's annual variety show where classes and organizations perform, and first year resident surgeons strip to their undies. Anyway, I got to meet up with around twenty of my batchmates. We chatted over a very late dinner. It was really nice to be able to catch up on recent happenings in their lives.
Now, on to our submissions. Since I missed an update (again), I've put up a couple of pieces for the readers' listening pleasure. Kakariko is really quite beautiful. It opens with a very slow variation of the first part of the theme. The piano, with its quirky acciaccaturas, plays the simple melody over the flowing guitar arpeggios. An alla marcia segment complete with snare drums and cymbals, then, follows in a tempo closer to the original's and with strings taking over the piano's previous role. The piece wraps up with an elegant waltz variation set in an even faster tempo. The closing passages are remarkably simple and achieve a Baroque- or an Early-Classical-like quality thanks to the use of what sounds like a harpsichord.
First off, I have to admit that I'm not digging Courage Wisdom Power's title. It almost sounds like what an animé character would yell prior to transforming into some spandex-wearing superhero. Anyway, what I can say is that utilizing the middle fragment as the opening was a stroke of brilliance. Somehow, the fading broken chords on guitar almost reminded me of a track from the Chrono Cross OST. Despite not utilizing the garbled and distorted sounds present in the original, Daryl is able to maintain a tense feel throughout the length of this great track.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and rescue Eoleo. Until next time! Have a great weekend, guys!
