This week's piece will be the first of two that I composed based on the title screen music for the two Luminous Arc games released outside Japan. I had originally planned on creating a third one, but ultimately decided against it.
First things first... A passacaglia is basically a set of variations on top of a repeating bass, called ostinato. The two pieces I made are very similar. The violas and cellos present the initial ostinato. The second violins, then, appear and play the theme's melody once, after which the section plays it an octave lower to become part of the ostinato as well. The first violins, then, play the variations over the other string sections. Don't let the weird name throw you off. Go ahead and try it out.
As I said, this is the first of two pieces, so expect another update next week. Until then!
