"There is in souls a sympathy with sounds:
And as the mind is pitch'd the ear is pleased
With melting airs, or martial, brisk or grave;
Some chord in unison with what we hear
Is touch'd within us, and the heart replies."

- William Cowper
Awakenings
Francis "Fermat's Last Theorem" Gayon The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker | The Legendary Hero
Author's Comments

This piece was composed as per request of Mr. Steven Linam, an RPGamer and cellist. This piece was supposed to be performed last March 11, but was unfortunately postponed indefinitely.

This piece is based on the music accompanying The Wind Waker's prologue and evokes the rise of a hero—from his initial musings, to dreams of heroism, and finally into action. The piece is quite difficult, and was meant to show off Mr. Linam's virtuosity.

Composed for solo cello using Sibelius 5 and rendered by Kouen using SONAR 7 Producer Edition.

From my first soundtrack review to the first original composition of mine to be played live... Well, potentially, because as I mentioned in the author's notes, the performance was postponed indefinitely. Still, it's a rather awesome feeling. The piece is unlike most of my structured pieces—almost rhapsodic, actually, with the alla marcia finale erupting unexpectedly after predominantly lyric preceding segments. Still, I hope you guys like it. Constructive criticisms are, as always, very much welcome.

Pardon the late update, as I am now in the Department of Medicine and am experiencing one of the most tiring, but also perhaps the most intellectually rewarding of the rotations. I went on duty yesterday and had stayed in the wards for precisely 37 hours straight. I feel rather tired, and would love to go to sleep right now, but I have a couple of topics to report on tomorrow. Did I mention that it's very tiring?

Anyway, I hope Mr. Linam's performance pushes through, and I had asked him for a recording of the live performance. For now, we shall have to bear with a rendered version of the piece. As promised, Kain Vinosec will return next week with the rest of his Final Fantasy IV EP.

Have a great weekend, guys, and wish me luck for tomorrow.
