Final Fantasy X | To Zanarkand |

Here is my electronic remix of Uematsu's legendary theme from Final Fantasy X. My goal was to keep the original, majestic qualility while giving it an energetic spin. The song opens with a syncapted arppeggio played by a saw wave synth, followed by an off-beat bass which sets the stage for the soon to enter piano playing the theme. The vocals then demand a rest from the other instruments to claim full attention. I had to modify the structure of the words to fit some areas of this piece, but they seemed to fall into place quite easily! Assembled in FL Studio 8 with vocals by me.

I must ask Tom Plets this question: Are you clairvoyant?
You see, the piece I am featuring today was submitted right before I announced the theme for the second round of "The Grand Audition 2009." How coincidental that the title of Tom's submission is such. And the incorporation of vocals! The time signature of the original piece used! I am astounded that— *stops self* I shall say no more...
Now, as for the submission itself, well... it has left me speechless for the most part. The superimposition of To Zanarkand's melody on top of a 4/4 time signature rhythm base is something that I felt was a bit awkward, but quite all right. The timbre of Mr. Plets's voice conjures in my mind images of big, burly pirates singing aboard their ship. I'm not being mean or anything; just being honest. Besides, the imagery is actually congruent to the essence of the piece. Overall, the remix is very... unique. Download away, folks! I'm pretty sure quite a number are intrigued about how Mr. Plets sounds like. Ah, and Tom actually created a video to accompany this piece. The said video can be found here.
Now, just a reminder to all who wish to join "The Grand Audition 2009," only two weeks remain before the deadline of submissions for the current round, so you better pick up the pace. As of yet, I have received no submissions, and being the worrywart that I am, I am rather, well, worried. Again, just for reference, the round and main contest pages can be found here and here respectively. I warn you again, artists, be very specific with your remixes.
Well, that about does it for this update of Sound Test. Take care and enjoy the weekend, guys!
P.S. I just realized that this update also marks my first year as curator. I am well aware that I have plenty of shortcomings, but I do hope I haven't done too bad of a job. I can only hope that you guys would continue to support Sound Test for as long as it exists. To video game music and the joy it brings to us all! *raises a glass*
