Author's Comments

My first Sound Test contribution in 2 years (!) co-incides with the release of "Summoning of Spirits", the latest OverClocked Remix site project, covering music from Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Symphonia. This is one of four tracks that I did for it - a chilled variation on "Fighting of the Spirit" written to close the album. If you knew what to expect from me 3 years ago, then you'll get it here - subtle melodic work, emphasis on atmosphere, my trademark piano incorporations... I feel that with what I put down here, this is my proudest contribution for the album. Thanks, and visit tales.ocremix.org to check out the other 52 tracks as well :D

I must say, this vacation thing has been a blast so far. I am currently playing not one, but three DS games—Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, and Suikoden Tierkreis. I wouldn't even dare to try this during the academic year, lest I risk failing. Alas, three weeks remain before I must return to the hospital as an intern. I do hope I get to finish all three games before then.

Now, onto more serious matters. I hereby announce the beginning of Round 2 of "The Grand Audition 2009," entitled "Flying Solo." Check out the round page for the theme. Please read the announcement completely and carefully so that we we won't have problems later on. I don't want anybody's efforts to go to waste. For those who have just read about "The Grand Audition 2009" and plan to join for the first time, don't forget to also check the main contest page for the general guidelines of the competition.

Also, in this update, we welcome the return of one of Sound Test's most prolific contributors: Rexy. The work is stunning, to say the least, and is more than worthy to be eponymous to the album itself. I wouldn't exactly call it "chilling;" "mystifying" perhaps, particularly the opening sequence with its slides and low registers. It doesn't drag like other pieces of similar length and tempo. I particularly like the part at around 2:33-3:01 when the piano enters, accompanied by what I think is a contrabass. I never thought that Fighting of the Spirit could be morphed into something so raw and emotional. Major props to Rexy for such a magnificent creation. Why, if this piece was submitted for Round 1, it could've given Tom a run for his money! Download the track now, folks! I assure you, you will not be disappointed. You also might want to check out the other tracks in the compilation as well. It's been a while since the project head contacted me to inform me of this compilation, but regretfully, I've only been able to listen to a few tracks. I suppose I'll have to put that on my to-do list.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I shall return to my games now. I have a deadline of sorts to catch, as do you, great remixers! Enjoy the weekend, folks! Oh, and Happy Easter in advance!
