Game of the Year Results

Editors' Choice

In a year with so many good RPGs, how could one find the time to play them all? The following games were the ones that we just couldn't put down or just kept picking back up. For whatever reason, these are the most addictive RPGs of 2007.

Most Addictive 2007
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is akin to the love child of Tetris and Final Fantasy. While it doesn't play like either of those games, the puzzle RPG gameplay is actually closer to resembling the puzzle game Bejeweled with missions, enemies, spells, and weapons. Puzzle Quest's appeal is with its straightforward and simple gameplay. It's easy to understand, yet tough to master. Plus luck is always a factor, though the enemies seem to have better "luck" than the player, but that, too, is part of the addictiveness.

This game touts tons of missions, customizable character classes, dozens of skills, and over forty hours of gameplay. It's simple to pick up, play a match, and put it back down. But before long "one more match" becomes ten more matches and the time just flies by. Not that Puzzle Quest is without its flaws, but it is easily the most addictive RPG of 2007.

Second Place - Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

How could Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, an enhanced port of a game that came out back in the late Nineties, be among the most addictive games of 2007? Well, take the same addictive gameplay, completely rework the horrid translation, add some new job classes, add cinematics, and make it a game that can be played on the go is how. It was great back then and it's still great now.

Third Place - Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3's combination of simple combat, social simulation, and immersive storytelling made it easily one of the most addictive RPG of 2007. With the ability to customize battle with the Social Links system, the 70+ hours of gameplay fly by and leave players craving more.
