Closing Time |
[12/24/2006] Well folks, JuMeSyn has hit 50 reviews this week. Here is a collection of some of his milestone reviews along with a bonus spoof review and his 50th review: the first in a series of Shing Force III reviews. Anyway, I'll switch over to a blurb by the man of the hour:
Now, before anyone digs too deeply into me regarding the sudden profusion of
big numbers here: I consider Shining Force III as one title released
separately. So it was originally to be just one massive review, but
(thankfully) the separate Scenarios got their own listings. It IS my
personal favorite title in the RPG lexicon, so I don't even pretend at
impartiality. I do hope they are good reading. The forums ought to be a
good venue for letting me know whether these, taken together, are a drag to
read or not.
And now for myself. Some know, some do not, that I have never owned a piece
of Sony hardware. The only experience of any length with a Sony-platform
RPG I have was 2 1/2 years ago when a coworker loaned me his PS2 so I could
play Final Fantasy IX. I might've tried playing FFX since he had it, but
there just wasn't time before he went back to UC Berkeley and took the PS2
with him.
WHY have I never sprung for a Sony console? It's not anything I
particularly have against Sony, although they've been asking for people to
put chips on their shoulders lately. It's a personal quirk of mine, wherein
I like to know that I've pretty much exhausted my options for games on a
console before I go buy another. Not to say that I've played everything I
own yet, but I do own most of the things for Genesis, Sega CD, SNES, Saturn,
and Dreamcast I would want to play. And picking up the library of titles I
would want to play for PlayStation (2) would require an enormous investment
in money that I don't have the means to meet right now. By the time I AM
ready to pick up a PS2, the PS4 will probably be under development. But one
day it will happen. Until that day, however, look forward to more reviews
for consoles and titles not many people on RPGamer have experience with! If
I decide to actually learn Japanese instead of winging it with Katakana and
moderate Hiragana ability, the import quantity will increase too.
And while I have the pulpit, MST3K is awesome. MSTies unite!

That's it for this week. Many congratulations JuMeSyn!
