You know, I really don't mind if a friend or two comes up to me every now and then to talk to me about their problems. It's not that big of a deal for me. But it's something entirely different when six or seven come to you in the course of one weekend and then you get into a personal problem of your own and then get strep and yet still need to go to orientation. Sorry for the late update.
Lots of songs this time 'round, from a variety of different games (that's good). Next week we will have the results of the Vocal Polyphony Remix Challenge although not all of the songs entered were quite as polyphied phonious as I had hoped. For our next challenge, as per the suggestion of Daniel DellaRocco, I'm thinking of redoing the Operattack contest of old as the opera remake challenge. Please send me feedback as to whether you think this would be a good idea or if you have another idea for a style to use in the remake challenge, please send me feedback.
No one guessed last week's update title...Emerge is the title of the very well played (and remixed) song by Fischerspooner. This week's title (hint hint) comes from the author of the infamous (and horribly overplayed and overused) song from The Matrix.
Happy composing and arranging, and keep that music (and tabs, and lyrics, and sheet music) coming!
A pretty basic mix, with a soft semi-vocal opening and then a string and piano chorus. I would like to "dedicate" this remix to my long-time friend Flick. She's about the coolest chick I've ever met, plus a huge Wild Arms fan. Love ya Flickie! :)
The 4 instruments for the main lead are a piano, a psuedo-vocal sound, a 4-person choir, and a harp. The background is a collection of slow string instruments, and other strings.
This only has 4 instruments. A choir and harp for the lead, and a music box and piano for the bass line. It's pretty simple, and I aimed to capture the sort of innocence of the song. Hope you like it.
And here I am again with another Yasunori Mitsuda track, my fourth or so within a month. Another great tune from a great game. Keeping old-school tracking alive! My website is here.
Being that song has no actual lyrics I would've found it hard to try and sing to the song(and it being that I actually can't SING worth a rats behind.) Took awhile to track and, as you notice, the song kind of slows at various parts and then picks up it's pace. Don't ask why, that's just how I tracked it and I found it quite interesting to have it like that, so I kept it. Originally I WAS going to make a Polyphony of To Zanarkand but, when I listened, it sounded eerie, so I went with Matoya's Cave.
This song is such a pain to do but, in the end, it's all worth it(specially since it's all a harp that's playing..) I think the song sounds rather pretty with a harp :) 'nough said..
I had a full orchestral and choir arrangement of Mystery Sword that I was working on before the contest was announced so when it was announced, I used it as a base for my vocal polyphony piece. I have percussion and a piano added to the choir, so I'm hoping this will fall within your requirements for the contest. [Editor's note: Mozart used a piano in Ave Maria Gratia Plena]
Here's a rare non-Ys MIDI from me. I really liked the way this one grooves, and when I heard it, I figured it probably wouldn't take too long to sequence, and it didn't, really. I added a few touches (as is my wont) not heard in the original version. Namely, some panning and other various effects (most notably, the cymbols in the later part of the song)
I'd like to make the distinction that this is based on the version of Toki No Fuuin heard in the PC Engine version of Ys 3. Yeah, you know, the version with the MASSIVE sounding drums, enormous 7 member chords, and multiple verses. Some of these chords were KILLER to figure out too, I don't mind saying.
This is based on the version of the song heard in the 3 disc Perfect Collection soundtrack for Ys 4, though I suppose it's closer sounding to the one heard in the SNES Ys 4: Mask of the Sun. The version of this song heard in "Dawn of Ys" is actually a much slower, mellower saxophone dominated tune. Anyways, by far, the hardest part of this MIDI was trying to figure out the guitar solos. It's REALLY difficult to imitate free-form improv solos in General MIDI, but I think if you have a good solo guitar sample, this MIDI should make it soar!
Once again, this is based on the Perfect Collection Ys 4 version of the song. In game, this song is played using the Duo's FM chip, but the melody and arrangement aren't really significantly different. If you happen to have a Sound Blaster Live/Audigy series soundcard, there are a lot of exclusive effects you'll hear such as low-pass filter and such.
This is pretty much the same song heard in-game, but elongated with different guitar solos, which were, once again, a chore to sequence, but they sound great! So here's another Ys classic that really should have been sequenced years ago but hasn't for some reason. I'd like to try and sequence 1 or 2 new Ys 4 MIDIs each month until the whole 3 disc soundtrack is done actually! We'll see if I can follow through.
