We're just one week away from the opening of OmniArt Round Two, and if the popularity of the first round is any indication, things are going to get even bigger as the competition continues. So be sure to check back Saturday for the next challenge!
But don't leave just yet! We still have a fantastic assortment of works in this week's gallery update. animetayl starts things off with a stunning work from Ocarina of Time. arus2001 answers a request for more Valkyrie Profile, David Mitchell sends in a scene featuring Hero and Nami from Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, and Maeva gives us another superb portrait of Albel Nox from Star Ocean 3. Final Fantasy fans will want to check out the works of murf and Ramandeep.
I think it just hit me just how many popular non-RPG franchises have been getting the role-playing treatment in recent years. I mean, we've had Mario and Mega Man for a while now, and movie series like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter (yes, even Harry Potter), have started joining the ranks of RPGdom. While some of these series have been represented by RPGamer's fan art section in the past, I'm surprised that they have been largely ignored in favor of RPG-born series like Final Fantasy and Star Ocean. Are they just not enough RPG and too much something else? How do you feel about seeing more works based on series that made the leap to RPG form later in life? I guess my ultimate question is, just because RPGamer covers a game, does this mean we should accept works based on anything related to that series? Post your thoughts in the forums or send them in, and we'll revisit this subject in a couple of weeks...
