Atlus has announced that it plans to shut down the online servers for From Software's Demon's Souls. The company, who has hosted servers for the game in its release in North America and has attempted to shut down the servers several times before only to relent to players' requests, reminds players that the game will still be fully playable, but certain functionalities such as messaging, invading, and the Old Monk boss fight will become unavailable. The servers will come down worldwide on February 28, 2018.
Originally released on the PlayStation 3 in early 2009 in Japan, Sony passed on releasing the game in North America before Atlus eventually did in October that same year. The game released to critical acclaim, including winning RPGamer's own Game of the Year 2009. The success of the game has lead to multiple subsequent titles, including the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne.
