Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

During its dedicated Fan Festival this weekend in Las Vegas, Square Enix announced the first expansion for its MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Titled Heavensward, the expansion is expected to be released in Spring 2015, with a teaser website now live.

The story aspect of Heavensward intoduces the Dragonsong War, a thousand-year conflict between Ishgard and Dravania, including a focus on "the Wyrmking versus Thordan and His Knights Twelve". The expansion features the Holy See of Ishgard becoming the game's fourth major city-state, which is ruled by an archbishop and four noble houses, as well as a new race for player-characters.

In addition to the new story content, Heavensward will increase the game's level cap from 50 to 60 and add multiple new jobs. It will also introduce new dungeons, raids, primals, equipment, and recipes. More locations beyond the Coerthas Highlands will become accessible, as will floating landmasses, with airships set to play some part.

Heavensward will take the game to version 3.0. In the mean time, the update for version 2.4, Dreams of Ice, is now confirmed for an October 28 release. At least one more major update is expected to be implemented between Dreams of Ice and Heavensward. More information about Heavensward is hoped to be unveiled at the London Fan Festival on October 25.
