A financial report released at a recent news conference held by Square Enix has put the kibosh on any chance of Final Fantasy XII arriving during the 2004 fiscal year. The company, which had previously indicated it hoped to have the release ready by March 2004, has not ventured to provide a new date, which has naturally resulted in lowered earnings for the economic period.
As this loss of revenue creates a rather gaping hole in Square Enix's release schedule, the company has opted instead to release its upcoming remake of Dragon Warrior V within that same time period, meaning there will likely be a Japanese release of the title before March 2004 ends.
This development has not, incidentally, had any immediate impact on an announcement of a localization of the remake, which has thus far been unforthcoming. There has also been no timeline given for a North American localization of FFXII, a port that is virtually a given.
