Tornado Puts MMORPGs On Hold

A tornado struck the Virginia datacenter complex which hosts servers for Star Wars Galaxies and the World of Warcraft U.S. beta Friday, causing temporary interruptions of both games. According to a status update on the official World of Warcraft website, water leaked into the building where the game's servers were located, so the servers were shut down as a precautionary measure.

Star Wars Galaxies weathered the storm well; Sony has reported on the game's official website that all servers are up and functional. Blizzard is reporting that the World of Warcraft U.S. beta will be back online shortly as well, with probable downtime Tuesday to replace failed electrical equipment.
