Unlike other long-running JRPG series like Ys and Final Fantasy, which have gotten several remakes and ports of their earliest entries, Dragon Quest has received very few. However, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of the first Dragon Quest, Square Enix will put out a special Wii compilation game, aptly titled Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection.
It will not only contain the original Famicom versions of Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II, and Dragon Quest III, it will also include the Super Famicom remakes of all three games. While never released outside of Japan, these games were remade with enhanced graphics and sound, with Dragon Quest I and II on a single cartridge and Dragon Quest III by itself. Much like the Wii Super Mario Collection released not too long ago, these games appear to be emulated version of the originals.
Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection will be released in Japan sometime this September. It is not known if this game will be released in other countries.
