The name Sakura Taisen has been in the RPG news world recently as the first RPG series the newly unattached Sega will be bringing to the PlayStation 2. The Co-Chief Operations Officer of Sega, Tetsu Kayama, surprised those expecting a straight port of one of the Dreamcast or Saturn games in the series. The PlayStation 2 Sakura Taisen will resemble a side story or director's cut to Sakura Taisen 3 rather than a simple port from one system to another.
It is unknown as to whether or not the PlayStation 2 Sakura Taisen will arrive in North America, especially considering that the preceding games have not crossed the Pacific, but Working Designs has expressed interest in possible localization of the PlayStation 2 game. No release date has been set for Sakura Taisen for the Playstation 2, but Sakura Taisen 3 for the Dreamcast is due out in Japan on March 22.
