Square Chooses Singer for Final Fantasy X Theme; Melody of Legends Announced

The singer for Final Fantasy X's theme song has been selected, as the game's release date draws nearer. Chosen to do the honours is 25-year old Japanese singer Rikki, whose last album release, her fourth, was 1998's "Miss You Amani". She has since performed in a variety of venues, including several television programs, a collaborative collection and even at a Rumanian arts festival. With such a diverse musical background, she is sure to do justice to the lyrics composed by Kazushige Nojima.

Square, meanwhile, is not alone in making music news; King Records has announced plans for the release of two CDs containing the cream of the RPG music crop. The albums, which will be entitled Melody of Legend: Chapter of Love, and Chapter of Dream, will include 10 arranged songs each, from a wide array of games. A number of leading composers will be arranging these titles, including Yasunori Mitsuda, composer of several noteworthy Squaresoft titles including Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Xenogears, and Hitoshi Sakimoto, the man behind the music in Vagrant Story.

At this point, there is no complete track listing to be found; those tracks that have been announced are Eyes on Me from Final Fantasy VIII, Chiisana Hana from Popolocrois II, Passion Moment, from Tactics Ogre, Yume mito no Saikai from Tengai Makyo IV, and Melodies of Life from Final Fantasy IX. Eyes on Me will be arranged by Sakimoto, while Mitsuda will do the honours for Melodies of Life. The two CDs will be available in Japan on January 11th, each retailing for roughly $22.00 US. In all likelihood these albums will not see a North American release, but they may be available at online retailers.
