Lightning is fun

Ys: The Ark of Naphishtim was released on the PlayStation 2 in February, and will be released for the PlayStation Portable later this year. While browsing through the Konami booth, I noticed that the PSP version was playable, and being a fan of the PlayStation 2 version of Ys VI, I decided to give it a test drive.

The demo started out just inside the Rehdan Village at the beginning of he game For the demo, the western part of the area was inacessable, and the only thing to do was plouth through enemies on the way to the game's first boss, and subsequently plow through him. Unfortunately, this proved to take a great deal longer than it would on the PlayStation 2 version, as the load times between different areas were absolutely abhorent. The North Aerican version seems to be in the early stages of development, so hopefully this downfall will be rectified before its public release.

Don't get burned

As mentioned by our previously-posted interview with Yoshinori Sasaski, the game will differ greatly from PlayStation 2 version in that it will be closer to the PC version released in Japan. The demo ended after I defeated the first boss, so I didn't really have ample time to spot any differences myself -- it seemed identical to the PlayStation 2 version.

If you enjoyed Ys VI for the PlayStation 2, then chances are that you'll get your money's worth by buying the PSP version due to the major changes the game will go through during the transition. Those who like a challenge will also be in for a real treat by the sounds of things. The only way to know for sure however is to play the full game when it's released in North America later in the year.
