Nintendo today held a special Nintendo Direct presentation for Japan focused on the Monster Hunter series. The big news to comes out of the presentation was the reveal of Monster Hunter XX ("Double Cross"), a follow-up to Monster Hunter X, aka Monster Hunter Generations in North America and Europe.
Monster Hunter XX follows a similar pattern to the Ultimate releases of Monster Hunter 3 and 4. It expands upon the original game, adding two new hunting styles as well as new techniques to all of the weapon types. It also adds in new areas, a new base location, and various new monsters. Monster Hunter XX is scheduled for release in Japan on March 18, 2017, exclusively for Nintendo 3DS.
