Shin Megami Tensei IV Final

Some early details, along with its first screenshots and trailer, are now available for Atlus' upcoming Shin Megami Tensei IV Final. The game is a follow-up to Shin Megami Tensei IV and takes place after events from that game, in the year 203X. Unlike its predecessor, Final will not feature straight-up Law and Chaos routes, instead following a more Neutral route but with multiple endings. Playing the original SMTIV will not be a requirement to understanding Final's story, but there will be various references to it.

The game features a silent protagonist named by the player. The protagonist is an apprentice with a group called the Outlaw Hunters, but is attacked by a demon while on a mission and dies. However, after wandering the underworld, the protagonist establishes a contract with a mysterious demon that returns him to the world of living with the ability to summon demons.

The protagonist is joined by various partners throughout the game. Partners work similarly to those in SMTIV by using a skill or move each turn, but in Final the player will be able to select the partner that accompanies them and partners will be able to level up and grow. Two partners have been revealed: Asahi, the protagonist's childhood friend and a member of the same Outlaw Hunters group, and Navarre, a returning character who died in a petty manner prior to the game and now appears in a ghostly green chibi form.

Shin Megami Tensei IV Final is due to be released exclusively for Nintendo 3DS in Japan on February 10, 2016. A western release has not yet been announced.
