Obsidian is Goin' Down to South Park

Do not adjust your sets, this is an actual game announcement. Obsidian Entertainment is working with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone on South Park: The Game, which will be an RPG for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. This will be the first South Park game on which the series' creators are actually collaborating, as Stone and Parker will be writing the script and doing the voice acting for the game.

The player will portray a new kid who moves to town and quickly befriends the four main South Park kids. This character will be fully customizable, and will be tasked with making friends and defending the community from various threats. The player will be able to be a wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue, or a fifth unannounced class that will be made up by Cartman. A cell phone acts as the main menu, and friendships can be tracked using a Facebook-like interface.

As Parker is a big fan of RPGs, the humor will involve lampooning the genre, something that should appeal to fans of the famous "Make Love, Not Warcraft" episode. As befits the South Park style, the graphics will be 2D, but players will sometimes be able to shift further into the foreground or background of a scene. Combat will resemble the turn-based system with action elements found in the Paper Mario and Mario RPG series.
