Neverwinter Goes from Co-Op Multiplayer Title To Full MMO
10.06.2011

Neverwinter

Neverwinter, the upcoming title being developed by Cryptic Studios will no longer be developed as a small scale multiplayer title, and will now be the fourth full MMORPG title developed by the studio. This change in development focus has caused the title's original release date to slip into "late 2012". However, when Neverwinter is released, it will be following Cryptic's Free-To-Play MMO model currently being used by Champions Online, and soon to be by Star Trek Online. Neverwinter will adopt a more action focus, and use the 4th edition D&D ruleset.

Cryptic has stated that gameplay in Neverwinter will be similar to Perfect World's Rusty Hearts, where combat is fast-paced and reliant on the player's reactions. Cryptic has also stated that they have learned from their free-to-play models in their other active MMO titles, and will be tailoring Neverwinter's free-to-play model based on that feedback.

Further information about Neverwinter will inevitably drip out over the coming year, and no further information has been given just yet with regards to private or public testing.
