Shiren the Wanderer 3

Atlas U.S.A. has released a small flood of information about Shiren the Wanderer 3, which is scheduled to release for the Wii in North America on February 9, 2010. Previously only found on handhelds, the Wii version of Shiren promises to have a more in-depth storyline than is usually found in "roguelike" dungeon crawler games.

Shiren the Wanderer 3 will be set in a fantasy version of feudal Japan. The story will be heavily influenced by Japanese mythology and will also include time travel, in which Shiren can visit the past in order to influence events in the present. Shiren will be joined by two other playable characters: Sensei, his swordmaster, and Asuka, a swordswoman. Players have the choice to control all three characters directly or allow the AI to take over the companions. The game will also include equipment customization and new spells that allow players to cast targeted effects on enemies.

Variable challenge modes make their debut to the Shiren series with Shiren 3. There will be an easy mode to ease newcomers to the roguelike genre into the game, while the normal mode will contain the familiar level of challenge for veterans. There will also be post-game activities that aim to challenge advanced gamers, such as additional quests, super dungeons, a tournament, and a 1000-floor "super dungeon".

There will be a few differences between the Japanese and North American versions of Shiren 3. The North American disc will contain the downloadable dungeon content from the Japanese version. Unfortunately, Atlas U.S.A. was unable to include the Rescue, Versus, or Item Transfer online features in the North American release, making this version of Shiren 3 a strictly single-player affair.
