Bethesda Softworks announced today that its post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3 has gone gold. The game will be released in North America simultaneously on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on October 28, 2008. Those in Australia can purchase the game on October 30, 2008, and those in the UK will be able to purchase it on October 31, 2008.

Bethesda previously developed the massive fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, yet the game director for Fallout 3, Todd Howard, stated that it is the "biggest project we've ever undertaken." Fallout 3 has the same setting as the previous Fallout games, taking place after Fallout and Fallout 2, approximately 200 years after the nuclear war which devastated the world. It will be a first or third-person action RPG where the player can create various types of characters to play as to explore the wastelands of Washington D.C. Players will encounter many dangers and enemies, including Ghouls, Raiders, and Super Mutants. Fallout 3 has been rated "M" for Mature by the ESRB.
