Square Enix Confirms North American Spring Releases

Square Enix

Having been quiet for the past month or so, Square Enix is now back in action. Hot on the tail of the Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors announcement comes word of three more games.

First on the list is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates for the Nintendo DS. This is the second game in the Crystal Chronicles subseries to be released and came out back in August in Japan. This version contains a full-fledged single-player experience as well as a multiplayer one. The multiplayer experience is for local connections only, but does allow up to four players to team up. Ring of Fates is rated "T" for Teen and will be released on March 11, 2008. The game now has an official website here.

Next up is Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- for the Sony PlayStation Portable. Crisis Core takes players back in time to play as SOLDIER member Zack as he experiences the events that led up to the beginning of Final Fantasy VII. This title is an action RPG, features voice acting, and contains remixed versions of Nobou Uematsu's Final Fantasy VII soundtrack arranged by Takeharu Ishimoto. Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- is also rated "T" for Teen and will ship out March 25, 2008. More details will become available via Crisis Core's official site.

The last game on the list, The World Ends with You, was known as Subarashiki Kono Sekai (or It's a Wonderful World) in Japan. This Nintendo DS title is a side-scrolling 2D action RPG that takes advantage of the touch screen abilities of the DS. The World Ends with You stars a young boy who has just gained psychic abilities. He receives a message on his cell phone stating that if he wants to live, he must survive while completing missions for seven days. Heavily steeped in Japan's modern day culture such as people, music, clothes, food, and design, The World Ends with You is one of Square Enix's most unique titles. It is currently scheduled for a release in Spring of 2008.
