In the current issue of Weekly Famitsu, Atlus has announced Etrian Odyssey 2 for the Nintendo DS. Etrian Odyssey 2 is a sequel to the dungeon crawling RPG by the same name.
Three new job classes were announced: Doctor Magus, the Gunner, and a Pet class. Doctor Magus is an offensive mage, but with the ability to use healing techniques. The Gunner uses elemental bullets to fight enemies, and Pet is a playable animal class. The game will take place in two settings which are Sekaiju and the Flying Castle.
Along with the added content, several updates to the original gameplay are being implemented to improve the sequel from its predecessor. Players can now create 30 new characters, and new icons have been added to the map creation tool set. When purchasing equipment, status changes will now be displayed. One of the biggest additions that fans of the original will truly appreciate is the added "quick save" function that can be used at any time. On the graphical side of things all jobs are being redone with new artwork, and the development team promises that the battles will be visually improved this time around.
Director Komori said he wanted to create a sequal to Etrian Odyssey because he believed he could improve the balance of the game and fix other issues from the original, and it seems that he is doing just that. Etrian Odyssey 2 is currently 70% complete, and a release date is expected to be announced soon.
