Metal Saga

Atlus has announced that it will be localizing Metal Saga for the PlayStation 2. The game was developed by Crea-Tech and published in Japan by Success earlier this year.

Metal Saga takes place in a future world decaying from over-pollution. To fix the problems it had created, mankind created a supercomputer named Noah, beseeching it to fix their planet. Noah, however, decided that the best way to do this was to eliminate humanity itself.

To accomplish this task, Noah created an army of monsters and technological weapons, and the human civilization fell in an event later remembered as the "Great Destruction." Humanity eventually recovered, slowly rebuilding the society that had been destroyed by their own creation. Some chose to salvage lost technology from the ruins of the old civilization, while others roamed the ruined world as hunters, fighting the robotic legions of their adversary. Even after Noah was destroyed, its army persisted to plague the humans.

The game stars a young man who is preparing to follow his father's footsteps as a hunter ready to embark into the desert wasteland. He'll have at his disposal a futuristic arsenal of weapons including tanks, missile launchers, cannons, and military canines.

Metal Saga promises gamers a nonlinear experience. Yu Namba, Atlus USA's Project Lead, says of the title, "You can spend time hunting down outlaws, collecting items, modding tanks, exploring the vast wilderness, or playing a wide variety of mini games, or instead devote yourself to unlocking any one of the many different endings."

Though lacking an ESRB rating, Metal Saga will be priced at $49.99 and Atlus has set a Spring 2006 release date for the game. A first look at the game can be seen here.
