Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana

Square Enix has opened the official website for its World of Mana project, which serves as a revival of the Seiken Densetsu series across multiple genres and platforms. Though the website is quite limited and is mostly a teaser site at present, it does contain the previously released World of Mana trailer and a new song.

It also has pages for the two World of Mana games that have been announced, Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana for the Nintendo DS and Seiken Densetsu 4 for an unknown system. In addition, there are five "Coming Soon" sections of the website, indicating that there may be more World of Mana games planned. The page for Seiken Densetsu 4 doesn't reveal anything more than already reported, but the Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana page brings to light the key members of the development team working on this title, many of whom are regarded as major figures in the industry.

The game's producer is Kouchi Ishii, the creator of the Seiken Densetsu series and the director of its earlier games. Children of Mana will feature a story by Masato Kato, who worked as a writer on Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Baten Kaitos, and Xenogears. The character designs will be done by Nao Ikeda, who worked on Legend of Mana and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

Square Enix has hired three composers to write the game's music. First is Kenji Ito, the composer behind Final Fantasy Adventure (the original Seiken Densetsu game), Sword of Mana, Romancing SaGa, and SaGa Frontier. The second is Masaharu Iwata, composer of Baroque. Iwata was also part of the composing teams responsible for Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle, and Tactics Ogre. And lastly, Takayuki Aihara, composer for Drag-On Dragoon 2, will also be working on the game's music.

Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana is currently slated for a Winter 2006 release in Japan, though it is unknown if this means a release at the start or the end of the year. No North American release date has been announced at the present time.
