Square Enix, Inc., the North American publisher of Square Enix interactive entertainment products, has confirmed that Full Metal Alchemist and the Broken Angel will ship to retailers on January 18. The story for the game revolves around two brothers, Edward and Alphonse, who are in search of the Philosopher's Stone which is said to have untold power. These brothers search for this power to replace the body parts they lost during a botched attempt to bring their deceased mother back from the grave. Alphonse, whom lost his entire body was only saved due to Edward sacrificing his right arm to place his soul in a suit of armor.
"The early success of the anime series on Cartoon Network shows the great amount of potential the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise holds in the U.S. market," said Ichiro Otobe, president and COO of Square Enix, Inc. "We anticipate that American players will find the game to be as addicting as the Japanese fans have found it. The Fullmetal Alchemist franchise, which encompasses comic books, a novel, TV animation, and games, has enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success in Japan."
To coincide with this announcement, Square Enix also opened the official site for Full Metal Alchemist which gives fans a chance to see a story synopsis, character bios, a look into the game's features, and four wallpapers. Full Metal Alchemist and the Broken Angel is rated "T" for Teen (Blood, Mild Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence) and when the title ships, will be available for an MSRP of $39.99.
