Bugs Sighted in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire
12.05.2003

Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire

Nintendo of Japan recently responded to the complaints of Japanese players who discovered an annoying bug in their copies of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire for Game Boy Advance. The bug rears its ugly head once the game's internal clock reaches one year.

One of the special systems in the game allows players to plant trees, which bear fruit that enhances the evolution of Pokémon. The bug halts the growth of trees at the one-year mark, and it disables the lottery mini-game at Lilycove.

Nintendo has informed all Japanese Pokémon players to bring or send their cartridges to a Nintendo service center; for no charge, technicians will apply a patch that fixes the game. It is not known if the bug exists in the North American version of the game, as it has been available since March. Time will tell if the bug has crossed the Pacific to harass North American players.
