Pokemania: The Next Generation

Nintendo has unveiled their plans for where the wildly successful Pokémon series will move next. With two new platforms launched by the videogame giant this year, it should come as no surprise that there will be a title playable on both systems. What might be a little more unexpected is that there may be just one title. While the details are somewhat uncertain, it looks as though Nintendo is developing an innovative game that will be playable on the Gameboy Advance, the Gamecube, and, at least in Japan, on cell phones. This third option will be mirrored in North America by an ADSL network, since the cell phone infrastructure that exists in Japan has no equivalent in the U.S. and Canada.

There are scanty details available on the game or games, since Nintendo is very early in development. The company is promising only that it will release the title in Japan sometime in 2003 and does not expect to release another game in the flagship series over the next fiscal year, in order to concentrate on development of this title. RPGamer will continue following this story as more details, and any information concerning a North American release date, become available.
