The much-anticipated WonderSwan Color was released in Japan last Saturday, along with a limited edition boxed set that included the Final Fantasy remake for the system. Sales, however, were much larger than expected, with people lining up at stores the night before in hopes of getting a limited edition boxed set. There were over four hundred customers in line at a store in Shinjuku when the doors opened.
Apparently, the combined influence of a new handheld from Bandai and a remade classic Square game created a demand beyond the expectations of many shop owners. Long lines were reported in front of major stores in Akihabara and Ikebukuro as well, with most shops' stock of the limited edition running out before noon. No details on the Final Fantasy remake's chances of crossing the Pacific are currently known, but even if it makes its way over here, being released in a combo package like that seen in Japan seems unlikely.
