King's Field IV Announced for PS2

From Software has announced that King's Field IV, the next in their epic RPG series, will appear on the PlayStation2. This marks the return of an innovative and extremely unique series.

The story of the King's Field series has continued from one game to the next, taking players through different lands and into the roles of various characters. Though the first in the series never made it to North America, King's Field II and III were released here in 1996 and 1997 for the PlayStation as King's Field and King's Field II. These titles broke new ground by using a first-person perspective, merging the RPG genre with the overwhelming popularity of first-person shooters at the time. Players explore a fully rendered 3D world from the main character's point of view, collecting items and equipment, while battles are fought entirely in real-time. With the advancement of both such genres over the last three years, it will be interesting to see what new developments are in store for this series on the PlayStation2.

King's Field IV is about 10 percent complete and scheduled for a March 2001 release in Japan. We will keep you updated as soon as more game details are divulged, and as information on a North American release is revealed.
