Yoshitaka Amano is known far and wide as the artist for many Final Fantasy games. Recently, he's been on an extended art tour, which ends next week. What nobody expected was the surprise appearance of a new Final Fantasy movie trailer which was shown during last nights "Discussion on Videogames" event. The clip displayed some old footage, mixed with some previously unseen segments. Good news: It looks great. Bad news: There aren't any pictures available yet. Thankfully, an intrepid IGN reader, John Polidora, was at the show and got to witness the clip first hand.

"First off, this all occurred at the Yoshitaka Amano show in Manhattan, New York. It had been going on for a couple of weeks, and the pamphlet that had been given out stated that a videogame discussion panel would occur on October 26. Hironobu Yakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, was to be present. Myself and a group of friends attended, and to our surprise, after a long segment of CG that I had already seen, mostly off of the Internet, he proceeded to tell us that tonight was a special event -- that there was to be an exclusive showing of theatrical footage from the Final Fantasy Movie.

As Mr. Yakaguchi told us this, through a translator of course, everyone in the audience proceeded to applause. What followed was a 4 to 6 minute promo trailer of sorts. It begins with a slow zoom/pan over the internal landscape of a destroyed city. The detail and lighting created a surreal setting, almost like a cave, but with obvious ruins of some sort. While this zoom takes place you can hear James Woods' voice in place talking about destruction of some sort.

From there, there followed a series of explosions and a point of view shot from some aliens infrared view of some people. What continued was a series of multiple shots of the main character floating inside a space shuttle. There was a shot of her turning around an saying something like 'So you think I'm a spy?' I think it was Ming-na Wen. From there, there were more explosions and a ship blowing up ending with a giant metal ball of sorts disconnecting. Then the main character looks out a window toward Earth, followed by a shot of her eye. The preview ended with a shot of Ving Rhames character taking off his helmet and looking toward the camera and asking 'Are you OK?'"

   Anticipation grows as more and more information about the movie is released. Some are skeptical as to the meat of the film, but general consensus is that no matter what, it will be an incredible work of art. More as it becomes available.
