Ending months of speculation, Sony has confirmed development on its next generation game system. While not giving any specifications for the system, a Sony spokesperson told Famitsu magazine that Sony would release specifications for the system early in 1999, most likely in February. This puts Sony in direct competition with Sega's Dreamcast for the king of the hill position in the next generation of console systems.

    In other PlayStation news, the price has dropped again, while not officially, to $99. Many retailers are marking down prices for the upcoming holiday season. If you haven't already purchased a PlayStation, now would be an excellent time to do so.
