Dragon Quest XI

Square Enix held a special Dragon Quest-related presentation today for Japan featuring a number of upcoming titles in the series. The biggest news is arguably the reveal of the next mainline title in the series, Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time. The game is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS, with a release on Nintendo's upcoming NX platform also being considered. There is currently no scheduled release period.

Dragon Quest XI is being directed by Takeshi Uchikawa and produced by Yosuke Saito. The PS4 and 3DS versions will share the same story, however, there will be difference between visuals, with certain parts of the development team devoted to a particular platform.

Other games also made appearances. Dragon Quest X Online, the series' MMORPG originally released in Japan in 2012 for Wii and also available on PC, Wii U, and 3DS, will be coming to both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's NX platform. No further details regarding these new platforms were revealed at this time.

Dragon Quest Heroes II, which now has the translated subtitle Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End, is confirmed to be coming to Japan in Spring 2016. The game is being developed by Omega Force and is a follow-up to Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below, an action RPG that features many characters from across the series that is set to be released in North America and Europe later this year. Dragon Quest Heroes II will feature a new world, story, and protagonist to its predecessor, but will continue to include various characters from the series. The game will feature four-player multiplayer with more details to be announced at TGS in September.

Completing the lineup were Dragon Quest Builders and Dragon Quest Monsters - Joker 3. Dragon Quest Builders is set to be released in Japan during Winter 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita, with its first gameplay footage shown. Meanwhile, Dragon Quest Monsters - Joker 3 received a solitary image and the news that it would be released for Nintendo 3DS some time after Dragon Quest Builders' release.

The full ninety-minute presentation, in Japanese only, can be viewed below. Footage for Dragon Quest Builders appears at around twenty-nine minutes, with Dragon Quest XI starting at around the hour mark.
