Final Fantasy XIV

New Final Fantasy XIV details have recently come to light via a video interview put on a companion DVD for the September 2009 issue of Famitsu. The interview was conducted with producer Hiromichi Tanaka and director Nobuaki Komoto.

One of the more notable details is that Final Fantasy XIV will not have experience points or a leveling system. Tanaka says "It will be a different system altogether." Komoto hinted that players will "try many different things and tackle any number of quests and grow naturally from their experiences," and be able to "practice one skill one day, [and] work on another one the next."

A key factor in Final Fantasy XIV's character advancement system will be jobs, as Komoto believes the "main factor behind Final Fantasy XI's lasting appeal is the job system." However, he noted that the job system will also be "completely different," with weapons determining how people play and fight.

The developers plan to give both solo and group players opportunity to succeed in Final Fantasy XIV, as opposed to Final Fantasy XI which has been criticized for its lack of reasonable solo play options. The popular Nobuo Uematsu will also be returning to compose the game's score. Final Fantasy XIV is currently planned for release on the PC and PS3 in 2010.
