While North America still has little over a month to wait untill they receive their first taste of a portable Front Mission, Square Enix has just announced Front Mission 2089 for the Nintendo DS. Front Mission 2089 is a port of a mobile phone game by the same name in Japan.

The game's story follows a war in the year 2089 between the O.C.U. and U.C.S. Like the other games in the series, Front Mission 2089 is turn-based RPG where players take control of humanoid robots called "wanzers." Square Enix has not yet said if there will be any extra content in the game, but it is likely that it will support touch screen controls since Front Mission 1st for the Nintendo DS does. There is no release date for Japan at this time, and no word at all on on the title coming to North America.
