Originally released for the Sega Saturn in 1995, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner was announced today as a remake for Sony's PSP handheld. This remake will be a complete port of the original, though at this time Atlus has yet to unveil a release date.

Players step into the role of Kuzunoha Kyouji, a private eye who has been killed by an assassin. Oddly, he finds that his soul has been stuck back into his body and somehow he's still alive. Partnered with Rei Leiho, the two are always finding themselves in incidents involving demons.

While the newly announced PlayStation 2 Devil Summoner puts players in the role of Kuzunoha Raidou, the world of this remake is that of modern times, though not in any particularly popular cities. The Devil Summoning aspect of the title is very similar to the demon manipulation of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, which involved convincing demons to join the hero's cause and the ability to combine existing demons into stronger demons. If similar to past game announcements, expect more details for this game closer or soon after the opening of the title's official site.
