Mythic Entertainment has just unloaded some bad news for those anticipating Imperator. The sci-fi MMORPG is now on indefinite delay, whereas it was previously scheduled to be released in June of 2006. According to the official press release, "The decision was made after a complete internal review of the project status."

Mythic says that no one from the team is going to be laid off because of this. Many staff members will be reassigned to the ongoing development of Dark Age of Camelot's next expansion, Darkness Rising. Additionally, some have already started work on Warhammer Online.

"This was the most difficult decision that we have ever had to make," said Mark Jacobs, CEO and president of Mythic Entertainment. "However, our tremendous success with Dark Age of Camelot set the standard for Mythic of releasing nothing less than triple-A games, and Imperator was simply not meeting that standard."

Although nothing has been said of Imperator's beta testing, one would naturally assume that it will be put on hold as well. While certain things may change before release, you can read RPGamer's E3 impression of Imperator here.
